Still, with the writer’s block? Yes, very much so I’m afraid. I can’t seem to get my mind straight and its driving me crazy. Imagine if you suddenly for no reason were not able to do something that you love and live for. Because I do, love the art of writing even though I’m not quite sure it you can see that in my work. I’m no Hemingway, Miller, Bukowski and certainly no Burroughs. I’ll probably never get remotely close. Most people never do despite years of research, passion and hard work. It’s not quite fair, is it, the allocation of talent. Some people are able to write, paint or compose a masterpiece with virtually no (relatively) experience whatsoever. Apparently or very much so actually I’m not what you’d call a natural. All my progress and achievements however slight that they might be I had to work for. Sometimes I get a little inspiration, more inspiration than I’m usually blessed with. Mostly I get that from studying the work of others. I’m a thinker. Not in the Aristotle or Karl Marx change the fate of humanity kind of way of course, my mind is mostly preoccupied with more mundane down earthy matters. I tend to think a lot of people and their perception of reality. Take one of my closest friends; he’s very intelligent and witty. But when was fuming about something that the government had done our more specifically something the minister of exterior had said he (my friend not the minister of exterior) the whole man turned into a question mark. He hadn’t the slightest clue as what I was talking about. On closer inspection it was furthermore revealed that he didn’t even know the name our premiere minister or what political camp he belongs to. Strange, I thought everyone above the age of twelve knew this stuff. It’s appalling really; people in a democracy should know these things. But I’m sort of intrigued by this at same time. How many people couldn’t care less about politics and doings of the government? I’m guessing that it’s quite a few. I’m writing my C-grade sociology essay soon. The subject is the reading habits of people in three different groups of income. Essays of this magnitude are always a bit of hassle. It’s fascinating stuff, really, and it’s what I want to do. I already have general idea of what I’m going to write about. The vexing part is that the essays got to include two different surveys. The paper must include one deep interview sort of thing with a people (in my case probably six persons) and one big quantitative style survey. The last one I don’t care for at all. It’s a hassle and quite boring actually to first put together a reliable questionnaire not to speak about getting it out to enough people. Therefore I’m considering the use of some ready-made survey tools. It would save me a whole lot of time I can put to infinitely better use. My feeling’s always been that a large survey, even the ever so well executed one, is pretty useless if you don’t have the time or means to do a proper analysis and put the results into the right context.
